What is the Pilates Youth Organization?

The Pilates Youth Organization is the only one of its kind.  Joseph Pilates wanted to “First Educate the Child” in body / mind awareness and activities.  The Pilates Youth Organization is the go to source for the realization of Mr. Pilates’ vision.

Joe_Pilates_teaches_dancers_v2Our mission is to inspire youth in developing lifestyles for long-term health and happiness by providing fun integrated Pilates and wellness programs to schools and communities, which teach youth self-confidence, body awareness, movement, and wellbeing.

Why Pilates?

In our society today many people have poor awareness of their body, they don’t know the mechanics of how the body functions, and they don’t know how to find and maintain balance and efficiency in the body.  There is an epidemic of obesity and obesity related illnesses in society and great amount of people are in poor health. It’s important to educate youth about their bodies and teach them the functions and mechanics of the human body. It’s important for youth to learn how to create good habitual patterns in their bodies and it’s important that they’re given tools on how to use their body in the most efficient way to improve overall quality of life.  Pilates is effective tool that can be implemented to help youth achieve these goals.

Pilates is an exercise method that builds functional and foundational movement skills for life. It is a series of controlled and systematic movements coupled with focused breathing patterns engaging the body and mind. Pilates emphasizes correct joint mechanics, improved posture and breathing functionality, coordinated movement, stability, balance, control, precision of movement, and overall well-being for an integrated body and mind.  Pilates helps prevent overuse injuries with the skills learned in the practice and is a fun and inspirational option for youth who are less inclined to exercise and move.

Celeste Corey-Zopich, PMA®-CPT (Certified Pilates Teacher), RMT – (Reiki Master Teacher), NASM® – YES (Youth Exercise Specialist), IYCA – Youth Nutrition Specialist

Celeste Zopich is the owner/director of Pilates Staten Island and the Center for Transformational Wellness.  She is also a Founder and Board member of the Pilates Youth Organization.  With a background in both movement and business and a lifelong interest in wellness and complementary medicine, Celeste actively teaches Pilates to all ages and abilities, is a Reiki master practitioner and teacher, and teacher of meditation and lifestyle enhancing skills.  She also specializes in post-rehabilitative Pilates and youth exercise and nutritional considerations.  Celeste is the proud co-author of Pilates for Children and Adolescents, Manual of Guidelines and Curriculum.

Celeste teaches locally, nationally, and internationally.  She has been teaching for over 15 years.

Brett Howard is the Director of Education of the United States Pilates Association™ and a Senior Teacher of Teacher of the New York Pilates Studio® Teacher Certification Program. The United States Pilates Association™ is a licensee of the Authentic Pilates™ Method of Body Conditioning, as well as the New York Pilates Studio® Teacher Certification Program – the first and oldest Pilates professional training program in the world. He is a Guest Teacher Trainer for the Authentic Pilates Education Teacher Training Program Australia Teacher. He is a Founder and Board Member of the Pilates Youth Organization. He is an Owner and Director of the Pilates Studio the Pilates Haus.

Brett Howard was certified by the New York Pilates Studio® Teacher Certification Program under the tutelage of Romana Kryzanowska in 1998,
he has been a Teacher of Teachers for the program since 2003. He has trained extensively with Pilates Elders Mary Bowen, Jay Grimes and Lolita San Miguel, as well as Master Teachers Bob Liekens, Sari Mejia Santo, Kathy Corey, Blossom Crawford, Deborah Lessen and Steve Giordano. He is a PMA Certified Pilates Teacher. He is a co- author of the book Pilates for Children and Adolescents and a contributing essay author of the book Voices of Classical Pilates. He is featured in the Pilates book, The Pilates Method of Body Conditioning by Sean P. Gallagher and Romana Kryzanowska and has appeared and contributed Articles in Pilates Style Magazine. He is “Distinguished Instructor” and “Legacy Curator” on Pilates Anytime and is featured on Pilatesology.

Brett Howard has taught workshops all around the United States as well as Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, England, Germany, Italy, South Korea and Spain.  He has created a Pilates curriculum for children that can be implemented in schools as well as the private sector.

Brett holds a M.A. in Dance Education from New York University Steinhardt School of Education, Culture and Human Development and a B.F.A. in Dance from S.U.N.Y. Purchase College Conservatory of Dance.
